Semi-Independent living helps teenagers and young adults to make the transition from foster or residential care to independent living. It bridges the gap between the two and provides the recipient with helpful life-skills training and mentoring from our staff.
Some of the important skills taught to young people include:
- Budgeting and financial discipline
- Household organisation
- Job-seeking and work skills
- Nutrition and health
- Finding accommodation
- Accessing support services
In semi-independent living, the young person lives in shared accommodation in the community, usually with one or two others, and contributes towards their rent and other living expenses. It is available to those aged between 16 and 18 years old and is funded by the Department of Communities (Child Safety Services).
